HULU TERENGGANU:
The state government has denied a claim by a Terengganu paralympic athlete that he has been neglected despite bringing national and international success to the state.

State Youth, Sports and Human Resource Committee chairman Rozi Mamat said the state government had given the athlete an allocation of almost RM100,000 to cover his food and drink expenses as well as other provisions.

“The state government also gave incentives to those who won medals at the 2016 Sarawak Malaysia Games (SUKMA) recently,” he told reporters at the Mung Belia Nelang here yesterday.

He was commenting on allegations that the state government had treated paralympic athlete in swimming and triathlon, Subki Ariffin, 36, poorly. The paralympic athlete is now ranked 22nd in the world in the PT3 category.

In the meantime, Rozi, who is also Telemong State Assemblyman, added that the state government was committed to helping in the development of paralympic athletes from Terengganu to ensure they will continue to make a name for themselves in the sports they ventured into.
