Guan Eng: Why BN speaking for DAP ‘Gang of 4’?

GEORGE TOWN: Why is BN providing reasons for the exit of the four Malacca DAP members from the party, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng asked today.

He said BN seemed to have given the reasons on behalf of the four men, even citing DAP’s cooperation with Dr Mahathir Mohamad and previous cooperation with PAS, neither of which was uttered by the elected representatives, whom Lim labelled the “Gang of Four”.

Lim said he would discuss how BN came to this conclusion on Mahathir and PAS in his meeting with state DAP leaders tonight.

On Sunday, four DAP elected representatives from Malacca quit the party, saying it was due to a lack of confidence in Lim and because “DAP had deviated from the party’s original goals”.

The elected reps are Kota Melaka MP Sim Tong Him, Bachang assemblyman Lim Jak Wong, Kesidang assemblyman Chin Choon Seong and Duyong assemblyman Goh Leong San.

Meanwhile, Lim told DAP members not to worry over BN’s prediction that more members would leave the party.

However, he advised party leaders not to underestimate the four DAP members who had left, as they now posed a threat through their “outrageous and ridiculous claims” against DAP.

“What is worrying is that just as there are some who do not believe that BN is corrupt, there are also some, including within the party, who believe that the Gang of Four is still loyal to the DAP by leaving the party.”

Lim also scoffed at Sim’s claim that he was still “loyal” to the party but only “disloyal” to the party leadership.

Lim said if Sim’s only qualm was the leadership, he could have stayed on and made his case to other members.

“Or has Sim lost confidence in getting support from the party after his faction’s defeat in the Malacca DAP state elections in 2015?

“Once again, I apologise for believing in Sim and the Gang of Four’s loyalty to the party.

“It is a mistake which had caused the party to still nominate them as winning candidates in the last general election and has caused DAP to lose one MP and three state assembly seats.”

Sim, who is considered an opposition stalwart, told The Star that he was not someone who would kow tow to leaders who had “forgotten their humble beginnings”.

He told critics to do some soul-searching and ask why he had “sought for divorce after 43 years of marriage” with DAP.
