Calling for support for these proactive efforts, the deputy prime minister said MACC had absolute power to hunt down anyone, be they politicians, businessmen or public officers.
“The home ministry and I have given ample freedom to MACC to not only investigate but also conduct searches based on the information obtained and act immediately on all accusations,” he said after pinning honorary ranks for People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) members here.
Zahid was asked to comment on a statement yesterday by MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad warning corrupt politicians that they would not escape action from MACC and that it was a matter of time before they were hauled in as well.
Of late, MACC had been active arresting businessmen and public officers for indulging in corrupt practices.
Zahid said MACC had extensive legal provisions to investigate and conduct searches and it should use those provisions to take action.
On Rela, the deputy prime minister said its membership had exceeded three million and said the voluntary force should always be at the frontlines assisting other security forces to maintain national security.
