KUALA LUMPUR:
We have all heard horror stories of how unpalatable hospital food can be but being served mouldy bread just takes the cake.

However Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) has vehemently denied that a patient of theirs was served mouldy bread as claimed, a report in Bernama said.

Pictures of the orthopaedic patient holding the alleged mouldy bread, went viral on Facebook on Sunday but the hospital said it was untrue that they were serving unsuspecting patients food that was inedible.

In a statement issued today, HKL said that its staff immediately inspected the bread in question when the one of the patient’s family members complained about it.

However the hospital staff maintain that the bread was neither mouldy nor past its expiry date and was in fact still in its plastic wrapping when served to the patient in question.

“We also explained to the relative that the yellow spots on the bread was yeast which had not blended well in the bread mixture.

“Later the patient was served with another piece of bread,” the statement read according to Bernama.

To assuage the suspicions of the patient and his family, HKL has instructed its dietetics and food services department to conduct an investigation on the incident.

The investigation will include checking the supply and stocks of bread at the ward and department.
