For the first charge, Abdul Rahim Hassan was said to have asked for a RM36,000 bribe through a text message to help speed up payment for debt collection of RM360,000 from Pasadena Sdn Bhd.
He was also charged with accepting the cash at Kelab Shah Alam Selangor here. Both alleged offences were committed between January 13 and 15, 2015.
Rahim faces a jail term of up to 20 years, with a fine, if convicted under Section 16(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.
Session Court judge Asmadi Hussin granted him bail of RM18,000 with one surety. Rahim was also ordered to surrender his passport.
Asmadi set the next mention date for Feb 8 and fixed the trial dates from March 13 to 17.
Deputy public prosecutor Aida Adhha Abu Bakar appeared for the prosecution while Rahim was represented by Hasnal Rezua Merican.
In November 2015, Rahim claimed trial to two charges of receiving RM200,000 in bribes to approve two loan applications by his son-in-law and niece’s company.
Hasnal said those charges were withdrawn last year before the end of the prosecution’s case.
