PETALING JAYA:
Anina Saadudin has been removed as head of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) women’s wing, but questions remain whether she was sacked, with party officials saying she had never been appointed in the first place.

The outspoken former Langkawi Umno member, however, insisted that she was sacked, a claim disputed by PPBM information chief Kamarudin Md Nor.

Anina said she had spoken to party deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir and secretary-general Shahruddin Md Salleh, who confirmed the decision to remove her.

“They said I wasn’t recommended by the presidential council to be appointed as Srikandi’s chief,” she said, referring to the wing’s name.

Anina said she had taken an oath for the post on Nov 2, adding that this formally made her the Srikandi chief.

When contacted, Kamarudin said Anina had never been appointed and that her oath-taking was a “technical error”.

“She was officially appointed as the supreme council member, not as the head of Srikandi,” he told FMT.

He added that even Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was only recently appointed as the head of the party’s youth wing, Armada.

“We have to wait for the chairman and the president to make their proposal, only then we will make the appointment,” said Kamaruddin.

Anina meanwhile questioned Mukhriz and Shahruddin’s claim that she had been merely “sponsored” for the post, when the others on PPBM’s leadership lineup announced in November were formal appointments.

“This is a three-month-old party, but led by a president (Muhyiddin Yassin) who has over 40 years of political experience under his belt.

“He is smarter,” she said sarcastically.

Anina said despite her removal, she would continue her fight “with or without position, with or without a party”.

“I fought tooth and nail for the rakyat even when I was in Umno, even after they sacked me and left me without a party, and even before PPBM was formed,” said Anina, who first came into the limelight when she openly criticised Umno president Najib Razak during a Langkawi Umno meeting last year.
