Perak DAP publicity bureau chief Chong Zhemin, in a statement, said he lodged a report at Ipoh police headquarters to urge the police to investigate whether the disappearance of the money had been due to misappropriation of funds or abuse of power.
“According to a China Press news report today, the finance ministry has confirmed that the full allocation had been disbursed to the education ministry.
“However, the education ministry has denied receiving the full RM50 million.
“It is unacceptable that with just eight days remaining in 2016, 800 Chinese primary schools in the country have yet to receive a single sen of the allocation.”
Chong said the same thing happened last year, when RM30 million of the allocation for Chinese primary schools went instead to flood relief.
He said in comparison, in 2013 and 2014, the sums promised to the schools were fully disbursed without any hitches.
“After MCA rejoined the Cabinet, problems started arising. In two consecutive years, during 2015 and 2016, allocations for the Chinese primary schools have reportedly gone missing.”
He claimed MCA’s slogan “When you have someone in the government, things get done” was just empty talk.
“I urge MCA to stop using such tactics to deceive the people. It has been proven over time that with MCA in the Cabinet, more problems arise.
“I also urge the police to investigate the missing allocation of RM25 million for SMJK schools and RM50 million for Catholic schools.”
