GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government today lodged a police report on a photograph containing an offending caption on the Rohingya issue, which was attributed to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

The caption – Tindakan Aung San Suu Kyi terhadap kaum Rohingya adalah tepat. Malaysia tiada hak untuk campur tangan dan dianggap mencabul urusan negara Myanmar (Aung San Suu Kyi’s actions against the Rohingya are spot on. Malaysia has no right to meddle in Myanmar’s affairs) – alleged that Lim condoned the atrocities against the Rohingya.

The chief minister’s office has come out fighting.

“Lim never uttered such a statement. This is clearly a case of criminal defamation,” said the chief minister’s information officer Zaidi Ahmad who lodged a report at the Pattani Road police station.

Zaidi said he received the photograph with the offending caption through the WhatsApp messaging app on Wednesday.

“Such a statement would only stir up religious and race sentiments among Malaysians.

“Lim was made to look as though he supports Myanmar’s actions against the Rohingya, which Malaysians, including the CM himself has voiced out against,” Zaidi said.

The information officer pointed out the Penang government had also passed a motion at the state assembly to condemn the atrocities against the Rohingya people.
