KUALA LUMPUR:
A restaurant owner blessed with a child after years of his wife trying to conceive is treating pregnant women, especially those in the lower-income group, to free food at his restaurant.

Speaking to FMT at ANZ restaurant in Persiaran Capsquare, near Jalan Dang Wangi, Asseek Ali, 36, said he and his wife had tried for seven years to get a child.

Asseek said he had vowed to share his blessings with everybody should he be blessed with a child.

“I am doing this to share my good fortune with everyone, especially pregnant women.

“Before this I had hosted other promotions such as a RM1 meal, consisting of a roti canai and teh tarik, in conjunction with National Day.”

He said the cheapest meals in town nowadays cost between RM5 and RM8, and there were many who could not afford them.

“Not everyone earns a big income. Furthermore, pregnant women are bound to have cravings.

“Sometimes, I see pregnant women only buying cut fruit costing RM1 for their lunch.

“At my restaurant now, they can have any food they want for free from Monday to Saturday, between 7.30am and 8pm, and on Sunday from 7.30am to 4pm.”

He said the offer started on Dec 1 and to date some 200 pregnant women had eaten for free.

Asseek said his restaurant served all kinds of food, including Western dishes such as chicken chop, burgers and spaghetti.

“I am not too worried about profits. Profits will come when we help others,” said Asseek, who has run the restaurant for three years.

Asseek said he did not expect such a good response to the offer which had gone viral on social media after it was promoted on a Facebook page for pregnant women.

Nur Alfira Abu Hassan, 29, said at first she did not believe the offer was real but was grateful there was no limit on what they could eat.

Shazrin Zulkifli, 31, praised Asseek for his generosity and his workers’ friendly attitude.
