In a statement today, Tian Chua said the developer’s wish to gain full control over the future of Sentul Raya Sdn Bhd was worrying, especially as the company had yet to resolve the issue of low-cost housing in Kampung Railway.
“Eviction of residents was done three years ago but development of the proposed low-cost apartments (for them) is yet to start.
“According to the initial agreement, the company should have completed the low-cost housing by this month.
“YTL has a social responsibility to deliver as promised to Kampung Railway residents and KTM staff.”
Tian Chua also urged Transport Minister Liow Tong Lai to consider if YTL Land’s proposed acquisition of Sentul Raya Sdn Bhd from KTMB was in the best interests of the people.
“An acquisition such as this will leave the government without a say and a voice for the greater benefit of the residents.
“Is it a wise move to go ahead with this acquisition? Has the ministry discussed with YTL Land the prior social responsibilities it is committed to and are these still a priority for the company?”
