PETALING JAYA:
Drivers of commercial vehicles can be issued with a summons if they are caught wearing sandals or slippers.

However, police are unsure whether the lorry driver in viral pictures shared via WhatsApp, which show him wearing ripped jeans, was summoned for his dressing.

The Sun Daily quoted Kuala Lumpur City Traffic Investigations and Legal Affairs staff officer Deputy Supt Shafie Daud as saying police were verifying the matter.

“Yes, we have a law on this matter, especially in accordance with the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act 1987.

“For instance, if you are driving a commercial vehicle like a lorry, wearing sandals and slippers is an offence.

“But in this case, we are not sure whether the torn pants are actually linked with the summons issued,” adding police were investigating the authenticity of the summons.

Police have urged netizens not to jump to any conclusions based on the viral pictures being circulated.

One picture is a copy of the summons issued to the lorry driver from Bandar Baru Sentul for “pakaian tidak kemas” (dressing inappropriately).

The summons was issued on Nov 22 at 11.15am in Jalan Kuching and the offender was ordered to appear at the Jalan Duta magistrate’s court on Jan 21.

The daily said a person could be fined RM200 for the offence.
