KUALA LUMPUR :
An Umno delegate has questioned whether former Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin is still “Malay first, Malaysian second”.

Referring to Muhyiddin’s remark in the past that he was Malay first, Penang Umno delegate Shaik Hussein Mydin called on the former deputy prime minister to state once more that he was “Malay first, Malaysian second”.

It is believed that Hussein was alluding to Muhyiddin’s good relationship with the DAP. The Pagoh MP is now the president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).

In the past, then deputy prime minister Muhyiddin was quoted as saying, “I am Malay first, but being Malay doesn’t mean I am not Malaysian”.

Hussein, who is Bagan Umno chief, said he was disappointed in Muhyiddin.

“We used to be on good terms with him. I used to be the Penang Umno Youth chief and he was the deputy president,” he said, adding they had faced many elections together.

“He used to be so racist that if DAP could hear him talk, I think even DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng would cry,” he claimed.

However, he said, today both Muhyiddin and DAP were working together.
