KUALA LUMPUR:
Denying that Umno members had joined the Red Shirts group in their rally last Saturday, its leader Jamal Yunos termed Tengku Adnan Mansor “old and senile” for making the claim.

He was responding to Tengku Adnan’s statement that the party would take action against Umno members who had joined the rally.

“Maybe Ku Nan has been in Umno for too long, and in his old age, he may be senile (‘nyanyuk’),” he said, referring to the Putrajaya MP by his nickname.

Jamal, who was not able to lead his supporters in the Red Shirts rally as he had been arrested early Saturday morning, said his involvement in the rally was never as an Umno leader.

“Umno members, too, did not take part at the counter rally to Bersih 5.

“That is because, like me, they participated as NGO members, not Umno members,” the Umno Sungai Besar division chief told the media after his release from police remand at the Ampang Jaya police station Tuesday.

His arrest on Saturday was to facilitate investigations into an altercation which occurred when police blocked him and his Red Shirts supporters inside the Ampang Point shopping mall on Nov 13.

Meanwhile, Jamal also told the media that the Red Shirts would be organising a “Bersih 7” rally in front of the Selangor state secretariat building in Shah Alam at 3pm tomorrow.

The purpose of the rally, he explained, was to save the people of Selangor from the “clutches of the allegedly corrupt state government”.

“During my four days in the lock up, I came up with the idea to have Bersih 7.

“Why Bersih 7? It is because the Selangor Government has failed to fulfil its election manifesto and we want to inform the Selangor people of its lies.”

Jamal said “Bersih 7” would raise seven key issues: the need for clean water, misappropriation of funds, cronyism, flood mitigation, affordable housing, garbage collection and a chaotic administration.

He added that the Red Shirts would be holding 700 roadshows on Bersih 7 all over Selangor.
