Speaking to reporters at Parliament, he said the follow-up audit was proposed in a PAC meeting to address the public backlash against the programme.
“We have decided that the National Audit Department will conduct a follow-up audit and the PAC will also conduct a site visit on chosen schools.”
Hasan, who is also Rompin MP, said the follow-up audit will begin in his own constituency first.
“The report on the performance of 1BestariNet shows that in 52 schools at the constituency, almost 60% have mediocre performance, 30% have modest performance, while the schools which performed well are less than 10%.
“We will conduct follow-up audits and visits to schools under this programme because it involves a lot of expenditure from the government.
“We want to see the project’s impact to the schools and we need to know if it has made any changes.”
The 1BestariNet project by the education ministry was aimed at providing government schools with high-speed 4G connectivity and an online learning platform with the Frog VLE (Virtual Learning Environment).
The RM4.1 billion 1BestariNet project was introduced by former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who was also the education minister at the time.
Meanwhile, Hasan said that the health ministry and the plantation industries and commodities ministry will be re-audited by the National Audit Department in the next parliamentary session.
“These two ministries have been given priority as they involve the welfare of the people.
“Other ministries which need to be re-audited would follow later on.”
The health ministry will be probed for the maintenance of hospitals, while the plantation industries and commodities ministry is set to be questioned over the palm oil subsidy.
