PETALING JAYA: A former hotel receptionist was jailed for 13 years and ordered to be given two strokes of the rotan for raping an Australian hotel guest.

Sessions Court Judge Kunasundary Marimuthu, in sentencing Roaquin Radzmund Muhammed Reduan Francis, 27, said:

“This is a heinous crime. The sentence should be a deterrent to the accused and also others contemplating similar offences.”

New Straits Times Online reported that Roaquin, from Taiping, was found guilty of raping the 27-year-old Sydney resident at the Ritz Carlton Kuala Lumpur in Jalan Imbi at 5am on Oct 19, 2014.

It took place after the guest, a fast food outlet manager, had returned to the hotel from a friend’s wedding in an intoxicated state.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Liyana Zawani Mohd Radzi said Roaquin, who was working as a receptionist at the five-star hotel, had helped her alight from a car on her return.

“He took advantage of the victim instead of looking after the hotel guest.

“He made a second key to the victim’s hotel room, went into her room and raped her at 5am, thus breaching the trust of the guest.”

Counsel James Khong said Roaquin was the sole breadwinner of the family.
