DAP rebukes member over FB post on Johor Sultan

DAP's M Satees apologises to offended parties, insists that his status update on Facebook was his personal opinion.

P-Ramasamy
GEORGE TOWN: DAP has rebuked a party member for questioning Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s decision to ban street rallies in the southern state.

DAP Deputy Secretary-General P Ramasamy said its Penang member M Satees had been told to apologise to the Sultan of Johor immediately for his Facebook post.

He also clarified that Satees was not his aide as widely reported in social media.

“We have severely rebuked him. The party has ordered him to apologise and he has since removed the said statement from his Facebook page,” Ramasamy said in a statement today.

On Thursday, city councillor and DAP member M Satees reminded the Sultan not to “undermine” the Federal Constitution by issuing decrees against rallies.

This was after Sultan Ibrahim ordered that any form of street demos would be banned in the state to ensure public order was not affected.

A screenshot of Satees’ Facebook status update had gone viral yesterday, incurring the wrath of netizens for the tone of language used.

Satees later however apologised to the Sultan and other offended parties for his “personal opinion”, saying his statement was not meant to insult the Sultan in any way.

He also said he suspected his status update had gone viral as some parties were trying to politicise the issue by linking him to Ramasamy.

“I am a Malaysian and an adherent of the Rukun Negara and I respect the monarchy.

“[…] When I found that some parties were not happy with the tone of my status update, I immediately deleted the post as I did not want it to be misconstrued.

“I have no problems with apologising to parties who had been hurt by my message,” Satees said in a statement.
