JOHOR BAHRU: Five siblings, aged between 10 and 17, have been reported missing since Monday while attending a religious ceremony at the Tian Hou Shen Gong Devotees Association in Taman Tun Aminah here.

North Johor Bahru police chief ACP Mohd Taib Ahmad said the disappearance of Yeo Soon Chuan, 17; Yeo Soon Shen, 16; Yeo Soon Lian, 10; Yeo Soon Yuan, 13 and Yeo Soon Hoo, 12, was reported at 10.30pm.

During the incident they wore the association’s pink-coloured Shen De T-shirts, he said in a statement here last night.

Mohd Taib said police conducted investigations at several locations and discovered that the children were under the care of the Social Welfare Department and had been placed under the Johor Bahru Shen De Welfare Association since July.

“Investigations also revealed that within that period, the mother of the children, a widow, had appealed to the association for her children to be returned to her, but was not allowed to do so without first obtaining permission from Social Welfare Department.

“Attempts have been made to contact their mother, but to no avail. Police urged members of the public with information on the case to contact the nearest police station to assist investigations,” he said.
