The 16-second video clip, which Cristal Chua and Tammy Ong posted on Facebook, showed the man exiting the hostel building, then running away outside as the girls ran out after him, The Star reported today.
It all started after Chua and Ong had just entered the building.
The Utar students, both in their 20s, said the man crept up behind them and “grabbed” Chua’s buttocks.
Ong also claimed that the man tried to grab her breasts but she shouted and he fled.
“I thought it was Tammy (touching my buttocks). I was shocked to see a man behind me. He then turned towards Tammy and tried to molest her when she shouted,” Chua was quoted as saying by the daily.
Later, in making a police report on the matter, the girls described the man as being plump and quite short, wearing a black jersey with the name “Mike” and the number “10” at the back.
In a posting on her Facebook account, Chua said any victim of similar attacks should try their best to take a photograph or better yet, record a video as evidence.
“Do not attempt to fight back unless you are trained in self-defence.
“If there is anyone suspicious around you, tell the security guard. Also, please shout to get attention if the situation turns ugly,” she said, according to The Star.
