“This is something that parliamentarians, ministers and ex-ministers must bear in mind,” he told reporters after launching a book titled “Being Abdullah Ahmad Badawi” at the Sime Darby Convention Centre today.
Zahid’s comments come two days after Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said police will record statements of three ex-ministers – Muhyiddin Yassin, Mohd Shafie Apdal and Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah – for allegedly divulging confidential government information on 1MDB in the Dewan Rakyat recently.
This came about after police reports were lodged by Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) and Sahabat N87 Federal Territory, two groups who claimed that the three former ministers had violated the Official Secrets Act (OSA) 1972.
Zahid, who is also the home minister, said Putrajaya will leave it to the police to investigate the three former ministers and hand over their findings to the Attorney-General (AG).
“It is too early for me to say anything at this point. We will leave it to the police and the A-G (Attorney-General) for further action.”
Muhyiddin was said to have revealed classified information on government-owned 1MDB while speaking at the Budget 2017 debate in the Dewan Rakyat.
The information, said Muhyiddin, was made available to him while he still held the post of deputy prime minister.
Shafie too, had questioned several government decisions on 1MDB, while Husni had reportedly said the country could still face economic repercussions if the 1MDB issue was not properly handled.
