SERI KEMBANGAN:
Selangor received RM3.03 billion in capital investment during the first six months of the year.

This makes it the state with the second highest investments in the country, Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said.

Azmin was citing figures published by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida), which had placed the state just behind Johor for the highest value of investments received during the period.

The PKR deputy president said this during his speech at the launch of the Selangor International Expo 2016 at Mines International Exhibition & Convention Centre here.

Out of the RM3.03 billion received during the first half of this year, almost RM1.7 billion was from domestic investments, while about RM1.25 billion came from direct foreign investments, he said.

Azmin said Selangor had registered 130 projects for the first half of this year, recording the highest number of projects compared with other states in the country.

“Despite the current economic situation, we are heading towards attaining our target of RM6 billion in investments in the manufacturing sector for 2016.

“Regardless, we must continue striving to improve in all crucial areas, infrastructure, education and research. I give my assurance that the state government will work closely with local authorities.”

Azmin attributed the success of Selangor to the integrity and transparency of the state government.

“We believe that zero tolerance for corruption is absolutely essential and that integrity, accountability and transparency are the hallmarks of good governance.”

The recent increase in interest shown by foreign leaders, embassies and organisations in the state is testimony to Selangor’s economic growth, dynamism and political stability, he said.

Azmin also announced that Selangor had the largest number of job opportunities to offer in the country.

“From 1999 till the second quarter of this year, 367,569 jobs had been created via 4,790 manufacturing projects.

“With a population of 6.14 million, the state has a workforce of 3.2 million.

“What this means is that we will continue to strengthen our competitive advantage in all crucial sectors.

“While more capital intensive and high-tech clusters gain more prominence, our services sector and employment-generating priorities will not be compromised.”

The Selangor International Expo 2016 will be held from Oct 20 to 22 at the Mines International Exhibition and Conference Centre.

It will be open from 10am to 10pm on the first two days and up to 4pm on the last day.

It is open only to trade visitors on Oct 20 and Oct 21. Members of the public may visit the expo on Oct 22.
