‘Mat Rempit terror’ on LDP: Let the truth prevail

KUALA LUMPUR: A complete investigation involving both sides must be made by police regarding an incident on the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) early on Monday.

Crime analyst Kamal Affandi Hashim said to date, only one side, namely the couple, had reported the matter to the police.

“In my opinion, we should also listen to the explanation of the group of motorcycle riders involved in the incident. If they are not at fault, they should be brave and come forward.

“We must know the story before the incident and only the group of motorcycle riders know, and surely there must be a reason,” he told Bernama when contacted, here, today.

He said there might have been provocation, a mishap or other factors which prompted the riders to act outside the law.

As reported in an English newspaper (Malay Mail) today, Lim Soon Cheong, 26, and his girlfriend, known only as San San, had a horrendous experience after they were pursued by a group of eight people on four motorcycles at 2.15am on Monday. Their car was also damaged.

Kamal Affandi said in such a case, the victims should not have circulated it on the social media as this could affect the police investigation.

“Why viral it on the social media? Will this help us get compensation? What is best is to lodge a police report within 24 hours after the incident,” he said.

According to him, many road users still did not understand what they should do if a mishap took place on the road.

“The first thing they should do is to lodge a police report.”

Kamal Affandi also said that he did not agree that all motorcyclists be labelled Mat Rempit although they moved in a group on the road.
