The party would focus on winning more seats in the state, said Baru who is assemblyman for Ba’ Kelalan and leader of the opposition in the state assembly. “We have been asking the branches to get ready.”
He was speaking to the media after the State Leadership Council Meeting on Saturday.
He said PKR Sarawak was united and ready to face GE14. “We are not affected by recent defections in Sabah from PKR and DAP to local opposition parties.”
Baru said that the presence of Mansor Othman, PKR Supreme Council member, at the meeting underlined the importance that PKR’s national leadership attached to Sarawak.
“Through Mansor, we will be able to convey the right message to the national PKR leadership and Pakatan Harapan,” said Baru.
State issues include an increase in oil and gas royalties, and the restoration of English as an official language. “These have also been conveyed to Putrajaya by Chief Minister Adenan Satem,” Baru said.
Mansor said the national PKR leadership would stand by Sarawak. “We will give thought to what is decided by PKR in Sarawak,” he said. “Sabah and Sarawak have different political landscapes from West Malaysia.”
The State Leadership Council Meeting was also attended by assemblymen See Chee How (Batu Lintang) and Ali Biju (Krian), and Dr. Michael Teo, MP for Miri and the party’s sole parliamentarian in Sarawak.
