KEMAMAN: Muhyiddin Yassin, in his maiden appearance at a PAS event, has proposed cooperation between his Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), PAS and Pakatan Harapan to ensure straight fights against Barisan Nasional.

Muhyiddin said there were three forms of cooperation which could be established: an opposition alliance; political cooperation between the three parties; or an electoral pact.

“We are confident that our cooperation will shake Putrajaya to the point they will not call for an election forever,” he quipped.

Muhyiddin, who is pro-tem president of PPBM, revealed that his meeting with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang a few weeks ago on the matter went well, and that he also had numerous meetings with PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and PAS elections director Mustafa Ali for the same reasons.

Muhyiddin also voiced confidence that through discussions with all parties, the desired one-to-one fights will materialise.

“This is our jihad (holy war) to protect Malaysia’s interest for the future.”

Leaders of Pakatan Harapan, comprising PKR, DAP and Amanah, have indicated they are agreeable to working with PPBM, but PAS’s stand remains uncertain with no clear decision from its leaders.

PAS has a frosty relationship with DAP and Amanah, but has good relations with PKR.

Muhyiddin also said that PPBM was willing to cooperate and negotiate with PAS, on election matters, including division of seats.

“We do not want to take seats which have been won by PAS, but seats won by Umno, give us these seats so we can defeat Umno. We will defeat Umno and form the government together.”

He added that BN could not be defeated by a single opposition party but through the joint efforts of all parties.

Muhyiddin said that if everyone had the intention to defeat an untrustworthy leader, then they could not look at their differences.

Earlier this week, Muhyiddin told several future Kelantan PPBM leaders that the party had a role to play to unite PAS with the other Opposition parties.

He said he was confident that PPBM can be the ‘glue’ so that PAS could continue fighting the BN in the coming elections.
