Thirty-nine women, believed to be prostitutes, were among 158 detained in a five-hour operation that ended early today.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Amar Singh Ishar Singh said those detained comprised 89 Vietnamese, Thais (29), Bangladeshis (seven), Cambodians (six), Chinese (five), Uzbekistan (two), Filipina (one) and 19 locals.

“The target of the operation involved brothels, massage parlours and entertainment centres, among others which served as vice dens,” he said in a statement here today.

Meanwhile last night in GEORGE TOWN, police stormed a guesthouse used as a brothel in Kampung Deli and arrested seven women who worked as prostitutes.

Northeast District police chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said today, the women comprised six Indonesians and a Sabahan, aged between 19 and 31.

He said the foreigners did not have travel documents and had abused their social visit pass.
