BUKIT MERTAJAM: The decomposed bodies of a husband and wife, believed to have died five days ago, were found at their rented house in Taman Machang Bubok, here yesterday.

Police stumbled upon their bodies after neighbours had notified the police of foul smell emanating from the two-story house rented by the 51-year-old husband and 35-year-old wife.

Seberang Perai Tengah Police Chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said police, who reached the house after being alerted by the public, collected the bodies of the couple and sent them to Seberang Jaya Hospital for post-mortem.

“Investigations revealed that the windows of the room where the bodies were found were sealed to prevent ventilation, and there were two gas cylinders in the locked room,” he said, adding that both the deceased did not possess criminal records and had rented the house for three years.

Nik Ros Azhan said police were also investigating whether both had any loans with loan sharks. They were also tracking down the family members of the couple, who do not have any children.

He also asked anyone with information about the case to contact the nearest police station to facilitate investigations.
