
Azih requested the government reconsider increasing several allowances that had not been reviewed for the past 12 years.
These, he said, included the civil service allowance, regional allowance, regional housing allowance, overnight allowance and overtime allowance.
“This matter has clearly shown that the public servant’s salary cannot meet the rising cost of living. We are worried that if this continues, how will they be able to buy houses and provide food for their family?” he told reporters after the 14th General Meeting of the Perak Water Board Employees Union here yesterday.
Azih said although the government had reviewed the public service scheme last July, Cuepacs still hoped that a salary review could be carried out.
He hoped there would be good news for the public servants during the 2017 Budget that would be tabled soon.
In another development, he also asked the government to review public servants’ loan qualification to buy vehicles and to allow a longer lending period to help them save money.
