PETALING JAYA:
A Malaysian student has been reported missing in France.

According to a news report in The Star Online, The Malaysian Embassy was alerted about the disappearance of 19-year-old Norsakinah Naim when her roommate contacted them, after finding the missing student’s mobile phone in their rented room.

Embassy officials duly notified Norsakinah’s father Naim Awang, 46, on Monday, officially informing him that his daughter had not returned home since last Friday.

Norsakinah, a Public Services Department-sponsored student, had been pursuing a course in Chemical Engineering at the Institut Universitaire de Technologie (IUT) de Rouen in Normandy, France since last year.

She last contacted her family in Sungai Petani, Kedah, on September 23 and according to reports, did not indicate anything out of the ordinary in her conversation with her mother.

The second of six siblings, Norsakinah is a bright student who obtained 10A1s in her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination last year.

The family held special prayers last night in hopes of her safe return.
