KJ passes pen drive to MACC

Youth and Sports Minister also wants to make documents public, if MACC allows it.

PUTRAJAYA: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has handed over the pen drive, purportedly containing evidence of corruption in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Khairy told reporters later, that he had handed over the pen drive and a hard copy of its contents to MACC’s Investigations Director Azam Baki for further action.

He declined to comment on his own findings, saying that he would leave it to the MACC to investigate and reveal their findings.

Khairy said that the contents of the pen drive had not been altered and that he had asked Azam to verify this.

“The contents of the pen drive are as what Tunku Mahkhota Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim gave me.

“In public interest, I had suggested that the contents of the pen drive be made public after they complete their investigations.”

He said however, that this would depend on the MACC.

Khairy added that he has no issues with being called in to give a statement, should the need arise.

According to Khairy, the Johor prince had told him that it was up to him (Khairy) what he wanted to do with the pen drive, and said he was not aware of who the whistle-blower is who had handed the data to Tunku Ismail.

Earlier this week, Khairy said he would submit evidence of corruption if he found any, within the 279 pages of documents contained within the pen drive, which had been handed over to him by Tunku Ismail.

Khairy had said then however, that many of the documents were technical details pertaining to Malaysian football and not on corruption alone.

He said he would not want to handover documents which were not relevant to the MACC but said that in the interest of transparency, he may handover the pen drive to them.

TMJ had in July revealed, via the Johor Southern Tigers official Facebook page, that he possessed a pen drive containing documents that would show there was corruption in FAM.

However, when the MACC asked him to surrender the pen drive to them, TMJ denied the request, saying: “There are plenty of other bigger cases in the country that MACC is still not able to solve. Perhaps it’s better to focus on these unsolved cases.”
