Man arrested for offensive remark about TMJ

Police say 48-year-old was arrested at Proton Holdings in Batu Tiga, and two mobile phones seized.

JOHOR BARU: Police have detained a man suspected of posting an offensive statement against the Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, on social media.

Johor district police chief Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the man, aged 48, was detained following a police report lodged at 10am yesterday.

He said police intercepted the man in Shah Alam at around 5pm yesterday, at Proton Holdings Bhd, Taman Perindustrian HICOM, in Batu Tiga.

Two mobile phones were seized from him. The SIM cards were believed to have been used to upload the statement, Wan Ahmad said in a media statement here today.

The case is being investigated under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a fine of up to RM50,000 or one year’s jail or both, on conviction.
