PUTRAJAYA:
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin is no closer to a resolution to end the country’s football woes despite a meeting he had today with the Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) top brass.

Khairy said he tabled a proposed formula to the FAM during the hour-long meeting after obtaining the consent of FAM president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah last week.

He said the formula involved the FAM leadership and a proposed road map to ensure the future of football in the country.

“I believe a specific result will be announced on Aug 15, at the FAM exco meeting. I feel the exco should make the decision and announce it.

“The only setback is that there is uncertainty in the FAM leadership since the President has announced he will allow someone else to take over. So we should have a formula going forward,” he told reporters at his office here today.

Meanwhile, FAM deputy president Afandi Hamzah when met after the meeting, confirmed that the minister had put forward a number of proposals although he did not reveal any details.

Afandi said a decision regarding the proposed formula and a decision on Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah’s intention to step down as FAM president would be discussed during the coming exco meeting and an announcement made soon after.
