The 75-year-old, known for his rendition of Kisah Seorang Biduan, suffered a stroke on June 29 while in Perlis attending a “buka puasa” event with orphans there.
In a report in Sinar Harian, his wife Effa Rizan said Dahlan was initially discharged from hospital but his condition was only good for the first two days.
“Initially it looked like he had his appetite and could move a bit, but that was just the first two days. On the third day, he refused to eat and kept vomiting,” she was quoted as saying.
Following that, his wife called an ambulance and the doctor had to administer a sedative.
“His condition is critical but stable and he is being warded in the intensive care unit (ICU) for further treatment.
“Last Saturday, the doctor confirmed he had a lung infection.”
Having undergone a bypass surgery 11 years ago, Effa said his condition prior to the stroke was good.
“Despite having high blood pressure and diabetes, he never forgets to take his medication,” she said.
Hailing from Ipoh, Dahlan began his career as a singer after he won best overall performance in the 1975 edition of Bintang RTM.
He dabbled in acting after being given the lead role in the film ‘Kisah Seorang Biduan’ alongside Gaya Zakry.
Dahlan was also formerly a staff member of the New Straits Times.
