In a statement, Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang pointed out the PKR president had last week said there was no need for a snap poll.
He said she had also said that she was not convinced about the goals and objectives of holding such an election.
Saying Gerakan Youth agreed with Wan Azizah, Tan added that a state election was not the way to solve the personal problems of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, is currently facing corruption charges.
Tan said the charges against Lim should be decided in court and not the ballot box.
He said if the DAP pressed on with a snap election despite Wan Azizah’s reservations, then her position would become untenable.
“It would be illogical for her to continue as the Opposition leader if her views against the Penang snap poll are no longer respected by her coalition.”
PKR leaders are expected to meet on Tuesday to discuss Lim’s proposal for a snap election.
Prior to this, Wan Azizah and other PKR leaders had said that a decision must be taken by consensus by the Pakatan Harapan national leadership, and that the party had asked for more time to obtain the views of its members.
After Pakatan Harapan coalition partner Amanah gave its approval for the snap polls yesterday, Lim said the State Government would wait for PKR’s approval.
