“We have discussed what is happening in Penang and we came to the conclusion that there is a big possibility that the state assembly would be dissolved because of the chief minister’s (Lim Guan Eng) personal problems.
“So I have asked both Umno Youth’s national and state divisions to be prepared,” he told a press conference after chairing the Umno Youth Exco meeting at Putra World Trade Center (PWTC) here today.
He also said that the wing would focus its machinery only on Malay-majority constituencies.
“We will concentrate on the 10 Umno seats and an additional five more. The rest will be left to our component parties.
“We will start to mobilise our machinery soon. We are prepared.”
Talk of a possible snap election in Penang came following the corruption charges levelled against Lim.
According to DAP, the move was meant to gauge public support for the Opposition.
Last Wednesday, Lim said the DAP-led Penang Government would give time to DAP’s partners in the Pakatan Harapan pact to have consultations on the proposed state snap election.
