According to a statement issued by the division, Azalina took charge on June 28 as part of a reshuffle in the Prime Minister’s Department.
In welcoming the Pengerang MP, the division noted that as a minister with a legal background, Azalina would be able to inject new ideas into it.
The division went on to thank Nancy for her support and encouragement during her tenure as the minister in charge of legal affairs.
Nancy, who did not like to be referred to as the “de-facto law minister”, had during her tenure worked on drafting amendments for laws to prevent unilateral conversions, following two contentious cases.
It was rumoured last month that Azalina would take over the law portfolio from Nancy.
This was after Prime Minister Najib Razak revealed that a reshuffle would take place within his department after announcing the Cabinet reshuffle.
There are currently nine ministers in the Prime Minister’s Department, including Azalina and Nancy.
The remaining seven are Abdul Rahman Dahlan, Wee Ka Siong, Shahidan Kassim, Paul Low, Joseph Entulu Anak Belaun, Joseph Kurup, and Jamil Khir Baharom.
It is believed that Azalina will remain as the minister in charge of parliamentary affairs.
