Storm lashes federal capital, trees fall on cars

Fire and Rescue Department reports 10 incidents of falling trees and damaged property throughout the Klang Valley.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Heavy rain and strong winds lashed the federal capital this afternoon, leaving a trail of destruction in several locations, with trees crashing onto cars and houses.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Operation Centre Head, Samsol Maarif Saibani said the storm, which started about 5.30pm, also caused a garage to collapse, causing damage to four cars underneath it, in Jalan Lengkuk Abdullah in Bangsar.

There were also reports of falling trees near the Bank Negara KTM station, Mid Valley heading to Cheras Expressway, Jalan Klang Lama heading to the Federal Highway, Hotel Midah in Jalan Kampung Attap, Desa View Towers in Taman Melawati and along Jalan Bunus to Jalan Raja Laut.

“As at 6.45 pm, the Fire and Rescue Department and Kuala Lumpur City Hall had received 10 reports of falling trees, damaged property and road obstruction.

“However, there is no report of a casualty,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
