ALOR SETAR:
A five-year-old boy had to undergo surgery for a fracture on the forehead after being struck by a remote-controlled plane in Pekan Kampung Lalang, Baling, last Friday.

Mohammed Ammar Izzuddin Muhammad Zambri was riding pillion on a motorcycle with two family members when the mini-aircraft suddenly plunged and struck him on the head.

A 40-year-old man was flying the plane when the incident occurred about 6.30pm.

Mohammed Ammar Izzuddin’s father, Muhammad Zambri Zakaria, 31, said he was at home at the time of the incident.

He said he received a call from his sister-in-law, informing him that his son was bleeding in his head and ear.

“My son was riding pillion on a motorcycle with his 19-year-old cousin sister, and heading to the nearby night market when suddenly, the remote-controlled aircraft fell and struck his head.

“My sister-in-law took my son to the Baling Hospital before being told to take him to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani for scanning.

“After the scan, he was referred to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for further treatment. My child suffered a six-centimetre cut across his forehead which was two centimetres deep, and underwent surgery at 11.30am today,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Muhammad Zambri said the remote-controlled aircraft should not have been flown in the vicinity as it was close to a public area.

His wife, Nor Hafiza Harun, 32, said she was disappointed with the man who flew the plane as he did not even apologise to the couple over the matter.

“He did not even check whether our son was alright after the incident, and that was very irresponsible. I will take this case to court as it involves the future of my child,” she said.

The victim’s father lodged a report at the Baling police station on Saturday.
