Yesterday, FMT reported on a Facebook post comparing a photo of Queensbay Mall’s bare centre atrium with the same area being well-decorated for the Chinese New Year celebrations this year and Christmas last December.
In response to complaints on its own Facebook page, Queensbay Mall had last night said in a post that there was no festive decoration in its centre atrium area, like in previous years, because the “centre atrium is undergoing a major renovation involving ceiling and flooring works in a few days’ time”.
However, the same person who had posted the original comment criticising the mall later posted a promotional page for an automobile show at the same venue from Thursday, June 30 to Sunday, July 3.
Faten Rafie said: “Renovation? Seriously? Then why are there promotions everywhere that there’s going to be an Auto Fair at Central Court from the 30th June to 3rd July 2016?”
Another comment by Yaakob Osman called the post that the centre court is to undergo renovation an “outright lie”.
Referring to the mall management’s comment that it was only this year that the centre atrium is not featuring Aidilfitri decorations, Faisal Mohd simply wrote: “not only this year… same thing last year n a year before… no need to cover up la… fyi i stay near qb since 07”.
Even the less elaborate Aidilfitri decorations at the North Court, along a 15-feet corridor, came under fire from Faten, who said: “Why has the Aidilfitri celebration spot been moved to the front of Morganfield’s pork restaurant. Where is your religious sensitivities?”
Speaking to FMT, a spokesperson for Queensbay Mall confirmed that there will be an automobile show as scheduled and that the renovation work will only start from Sunday night, after the event ends.
The Auto Roadshow, according to a FB promotion page, is organised by KenLink events.
There was still no reason given for not using the Centre Atrium for its Aidilfitri decorations, but according to the Facebook post yesterday, the mall management promised to come up with a “grander Hari Raya decoration in the centre atrium of our mall next year after the renovation is completed”.
