The former Selangor Menteri Besar said he took the opportunity in this holy month to forgive TMI, and forget, for its defamatory articles on him.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim has accepted an apology from news portal The Malaysian Insider (TMI) for two articles, in English and Malay, on the Menteri Besar crisis two years ago.

Former chief executive officer and editor Jahabar Sadiq read out the apology on behalf of TMI before Justice Nor Bee Ariffin.

“We admit the article entitled ‘Going by Selangor ruler’s criteria, Khalid should quit as MB’ in the English and Malay versions were defamatory and has hurt his feeling as a Member of Parliament and state assemblyman,” he said. “We express our regret and apology for both articles.”

Jahabar said although TMI ceased operation on March 14, they still want to retract the articles and its’ comments.

Edmund Bon represented Khalid while Stanley Sebastian represented TMI, Jahabar and former Malay editor Amin Iskandar.

On August 2014, Khalid sued TMI and its’ editors over the online news portal’s English and Malay articles on the Menteri Besar issue.

He claimed that the commentary articles were defamatory and implied that he was unethical and could not be trusted and was unfit to be the Menteri Besar.

He added the commentaries contained words to instigate the people against him and to make him step down as Selangor Menteri Besar.

Khalid was seeking damages and an apology.

Speaking to reporters, Khalid said he took the opportunity in this holy month to forgive and forget. “I thank Jahabar as well as Amin for their apologies,” he said.
