In a statement posted yesterday, PLUS clarified that a technical glitch had occurred at one of the SmartTAG entry lanes at the Jalan Duta toll plaza on June 2, 2016.
“The technical glitch on June 2 had resulted in the system being unable to detect entry information for several vehicles entering the highway through the Jalan Duta Toll Plaza. As a result the system had penalised the affected cardholders through automatic toll deductions from their Touch ‘n Go cards,” the statement read.
Prior to this, a message had been circulating via the WhatsApp mobile messaging system, where a user complained about his Touch N’ Go being deducted more than RM50 when it was only a RM10 trip.
“I immediately called Touch n’ Go and later Plus Highway. Both companies gave me the same answer which sounded like this ‘Oh, this is very common as the magnetic reader might be faulty. You may go to any Plus office to get an immediate refund’.
“This doesn’t sound good to me. I asked both companies that if I didn’t notice the wrong amount being deducted from my card, what will your company do? Their answer was ‘If you don’t complain, we won’t know and there will be no refund,” the message read.
When contacted, a representative from Touch N’ Go said that it was an “anomaly” and not a common occurrence.
