One of the trains was stopped near the Bukit Jalil station and the 220 passengers safely evacuated.
According to Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd CEO Ahmad Nizam Mohamed, three LRT sub-stations at Sungai Besi, Bukit Jalil and Bandar Tasik Selatan were affected.
“While services between Cheras and Sri Petaling stopped from 6.24pm, train services continued with a longer waiting period between Awan Besar and Bandar Puteri.”
He added that all, except one train, were stranded at the platforms and the passengers disembarked.
“We are truly sorry for the inconvenience caused to our customers due to the unfortunate incident,” added Ahmad Nizam.
A Rapid KL statement said a team was dispatched to help stranded passengers onboard a train that stopped near the Bukit Jalil station. All 220 passengers had been safely evacuated by 8.15pm.
Rapid KL buses were dispatched to ferry passengers from the affected LRT stations.
However, the movements of the buses were disrupted due to heavy traffic caused by fallen trees in the area.
Normal service resumed after 9pm.
Star Online reported flash floods caused traffic to pile up at 7pm around Batu Muda Tambahan towards Sentul, and along Jalan Hikmat Usaha near Masjid Wilayah.
It said flash floods were also reported near Tun Shin Hospital along Jalan Pudu, Jalan Imbi and the Shah Alam Highway (Kesas) at the Indah Parade intersection in Sri Petaling.
Jalan Pantai Baru and Jalan Bangsar, which were hit recently by flash floods, were again affected. A fallen tree worsened the situation.
Hailstones were reported in the city, including the New Pantai Highway during the thunderstorm.
Bernama said hailstones were reported in Sungai Besi and the North-South Expressway near Serdang.

Several major roads and areas reported to have been badly affected by flash floods were Jalan Duta, Jalan Bangsar, Jalan Pantai Baru, Jalan Genting Klang, Middle Ring Road 2 (towards Bandar Tasik Selatan direction) and Taman Melati in Gombak.
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) confirmed receiving 35 reports of fallen trees.
Its Enforcement Department director, Mustafa Mohd Nor, said a rescue squad, comprising 82 members, and tow trucks was deployed to the affected locations for clearing and cleaning works, as well as for traffic control.
“Of the number, 50 personnel were assigned to control the traffic, 20 staff to rescue victims who were stranded (in the flash floods) and 12 workers manning the tow trucks.”
Meanwhile, the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Operations Movement Centre chief, Samsol Maarif Saibani, said a lamp post had fallen along the Sungai Besi Highway towards the Bukit Jalil direction, causing traffic congestion in the area.
He said removal work on the fallen lamp post was carried out.
