PENGKALAN CHEPA:
PAS will use a different approach in its efforts to wrest Putrajaya from the Barisan Nasional, says PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang.

In his address at the party’s 62nd muktamar today, Hadi said PAS would discard the politics of old – of black or white – which he said the BN and Pakatan Harapan practised.

The Marang MP said PAS did not want to be an opposition party which merely opposed anything, as some efforts of the ruling government needed to be supported.

“In the past, political blocs were only either black or white, being either the Government or the opposition with their respective political cultures.”

“The Government would always defend its actions and reject the opposition’s role, sometimes with force, while the opposition bloc would just oppose anything the Government did, even though at times, it was doing good.”

He said this extreme and harsh politicking had at times put the people in a tough position to the point that they became jaded with the promises of both sides.

He said PAS wanted to opt out of extreme politicking which burdened the people.

Hadi said PAS’s stance was in line with the concept of Budaya Politik Matang Sejahtera (culture of mature and harmonious politics) which was concurrent with the stand of PAS’ Syura Council.

He said PAS agreed to continue its cooperation with any party for the greater good and to strengthen Islam, but would not be joining BN.

“Be open in sitting together with all parties to discuss issues which affect the interests of Muslims, all Malaysians and our beloved country.

“Be prepared to accept what is good even if it comes from the Government while preparing to be a ‘government-in-waiting’, and be fair to all political opponents.”

This year’s muktamar is the first since the exodus of the so called “professional faction” of the party, who have since set up Amanah.
