IGP broke no laws by tweeting out his orders
Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this in a written reply to N Surendran (PKR-Padang Serai) who had asked if Khalid would be subjected to any disciplinary action for tweeting his orders, including against those who criticize him personally.
Zahid said such orders were not against any existing laws.
“The ministry sees no wrongdoing on the IGP’s part, since he had done his duty to quickly issue orders so that prompt action can be taken on certain issues.
“There is no basis for any disciplinary action against the IGP. However, no details or the outcome of a probe, will be revealed through the social media,” said Zahid.
Laws against unilateral conversion are unconstitutional
Any legislation to ban unilateral conversion is unconstitutional, Jamil Khir Baharom told the Parliament.
The Islamic affairs minister said this in a written reply to M Kulasegaran (DAP-Ipoh Barat) who had asked the prime minister when the government will table the legislation that bans unilateral conversion.
In reply, Jamil, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said that the court, regardless of whether it is civil or shariah, upholds the principle of justice in ensuring the parties in a unilateral conversion are protected.
“For this issue, legislation that bans uniletaral conversion contradicts Article 12 (4), which allows the father or mother to decide the child’s faith,” he said.
He cited the Federal Court’s ruling in R. Subashini’s interfaith conversion case.
Jamil’s remark comes amid his cabinet colleague Nancy Shukri’s comment two months back that the draft laws pertaining to unilateral conversions has been completed.
No formal request yet to Australia to extradite Sirul.
The Government is yet to make a formal request to Australia to extradite convicted killer Sirul Azhar Umar, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri in a written reply to Ramkarpal Singh (DAP-Bukit Gelugor) said that the government is still in the process of “initiating negotiations” with their Australian counterpart over the matter.
“The process will take time as it not only involves the diplomatic relations between the two countries, but it also involves complex laws which need to be dealt with carefully,” she said.
Ramkarpal had earlier asked the prime minister if the government had made a formal request to Australia to extradite Sirul, who was convicted for killing Altantuya Shaariibuu, and when such a request was made.
