According to the report, Idris said many PAS members could bee seen canvassing for support in the area, providing free health screenings and distributing bags of rice.
He added that he was glad potential PAS candidates were “touring the constituency and appreciating the development done there”.
He also urged potential PAS candidates to study the history of Samarahan, where Muara Tuang was located, and see how the place had developed from a fishing and farming area to one that now had universities as well as training and technical institutions.
Meanwhile, in Miri, Sarawak PAS Commissioner Jofri Jaraiee dismissed political analyst associate professor Dr Jeniri Amir’s comments calling PAS stupid for standing in the Chinese majority area of Pujut.
Jofri said Jeniri, in his analysis, was wrong to bring up hudud and other issues related to religion and race to argue his case.
Jofri, the Pujut candidate, said Jeniri was repeating old stories which were irrelevant, explaining that hudud in Sarawak was not relevant as Muslims were a minority in Sarawak.
In the coming elections, Jofri will take on direct BN candidate Hii King Chiong, while the DAP is expected to field Dr Ting Tiong Choon.
The incumbent for the seat is DAP’s Fong Pau Teck.
