KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) have accused their chairman Hasan Arifin of omitting two crucial sentences from the final report on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

According to Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, the first sentence pertained to a discussion held between the Auditor-General’s Department and PAC members, and the second was in regard to discussions between PAC members and government officials involved in preparing the committee’s report.

He told a press conference at Parliament today that the information in the two sentences had been agreed upon by both Barisan Nasional and Opposition members of the committee, to be included into the report.

“We had meetings. All agreed. Even he (Hasan) agreed to publish it. But when the final report was distributed, the two sentences were missing.

“Who deleted it and why?” Pua asked.

Pua said they were also shocked over the removal of another sentence in Page 25 of the report.

The sentence reads: “Bank Negara Malaysia had been informed voluntarily by the authorities of that country that Good Star Limited is a company owned by an individual that has no links to PetroSaudi Group.”

Pua alleged this particular line was approved by all PAC members in their working draft but did not appear in the final report. The published report instead only stated that former 1MDB chief executive officer Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi had furnished documents that Good Star was a subsidiary of PetroSaudi.

Also present during the press conference were PAC deputy chairman Tan Seng Giaw (DAP), Teluk Kemang MP Kamarul Baharin and Selayang MP William Leong, both from PKR.

Pua said Hasan had some explaining to do regarding the omission of the sentences.

“We will wait for him to state his reasons before thinking of the next step.”

Pua alleged the said discussions were also missing in Hansard recordings, which he claimed were crucial to provide the complete picture of the PAC’s investigations into 1MDB.

He has urged Hasan to reprint a complete set of the Hansard proceedings in Parliament.
