Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jien was quoted by Malay Mail Online (MMO) as saying that working with the Islamist party to take on Barisan Nasional (BN) was not part of the party’s agenda in any way.
“We will not work with PAS. We are firmly with Pakatan Harapan. PAS is not in the equation at all and we don’t want to bring them into the picture,” he said.
Chong, who is also Bandar Kuching MP, said DAP was also not worried about PAS contesting in its seats.
Opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had previously said Pakatan Harapan would not overlap each other in Sarawak and would run against both BN and PAS. However, the coalition’s secretary-general Saifuddin Abdullah reportedly said that they were open to collaborate with anyone to take on BN in Sarawak.
