Negeri Sembilan Perikatan Nasional (PN) previously said it was prepared to join forces with Umno to form a new state government after the Umno assemblymen said they had lost confidence in Aminuddin Harun’s leadership.
“However, last night, Umno (at the federal level) changed its stance,” Negeri Sembilan PAS chief Fairuz Isa said.
“It’s not an issue and we lose nothing,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
Fairuz also said he respected his Umno counterpart, Jalaluddin Alias, for his consistent stance on Aminuddin, acknowledging however that Jalaluddin had to toe the party line.
Last night, Ummo secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party would continue to back the unity government in Negeri Sembilan to ensure political stability and the wellbeing of the people.
All 14 Barisan Nasional (BN)-Umno assemblymen retracted support for Aminuddin on Monday, a decision linked to the ongoing crisis involving four chieftains seeking to remove the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan from his position.
Negeri Sembilan PN subsequently said its five assemblymen were prepared to work with the BN assemblymen to ensure stability and continuity in the state government.
The five PN seats would allow BN to form a state government with a simple majority of 19 seats.
