Speaking to reporters here, he said he was in full support of Adenan’s directive to all such candidates to resign from their parties.
“I don’t intend to resign,” he said, “but if it’s a must and required as such, I’ll have to comply.”
Adenan issued his directive last Sunday, according to a Bernama report. He said it would be up to each candidate to join any BN component party after the election.
The winners among them must remain pro-BN, he said, “because it is the BN symbol that has helped them to win.”
He said the candidates would most likely have to sign a pledge of loyalty to BN.
Adenan did not comment on what would happen should any of the winners choose to remain a direct BN member.
Recently, the BN-friendly United People’s Party (UPP) declared that any of its members chosen to contest in the polls would not resign from the party.
The direct candidate idea was put forth after UPP broke away from the Sarawak United People’s Party.
