PETALING JAYA:
Barisan Nasional has denied any connection with Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) following a news report linking the coalition with the Sarawak-based party.

BN secretary-general Zambry Abd Kadir said the report was “deeply regrettable”.

“BN has never permitted any party to use the name ‘Barisan Nasional’ or the ‘dacing’ (scales) symbol without prior approval from the Supreme Council,” he said in a statement last night.

“BN has had no discussions nor any knowledge of the actions mentioned in the report.”

On Sept 17, Utusan Borneo’s quoted Teras chairman Affendi Jeman as stating the party was committed to fighting for the people, “with BN being the foundation of Teras’s struggles”.

In another report, Teras president Banyi Beriak was quoted as saying the party has applied to join BN and is awaiting approval.

Teras, a splinter of BN component Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP), was formed in 2014 amid party infighting.

It initially intended to dissolve in 2016, but the plans were eventually put off.
