KUCHING:
A presidential council is to be set up by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu to speed up decision-making about the direction of the party, PBB deputy president Douglas Uggah Embas said.

The proposed council would comprise the president, deputy presidents, two senior vice-presidents and the secretary-general. Their role would be to discuss urgently on any matter that concerns the party’s direction and policies.

“It is a small committee; when an issue needs to be discussed urgently, it will be easier to do so because calling for a meeting of the Supreme Council may take some time,” Uggah said.

He said the presidential council, once approved by the Registrar of Societies to be included in the party’s constitution, would be another layer of decision-making body in PBB, after its general assembly and Supreme Council.

Asked about preparations for the coming state assembly elections, Uggah said the matter was not raised at the party’s general assembly, which ended today. “Nobody was talking about the elections. We just work for the rakyat,” he said when met after the assembly concluded.

The presidential council would comprise Abang Johari Openg, the party president, deputy presidents Uggah and Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, senior vice-presidents Fadillah Yusof and Stephen Rundi Utom and secretary-general Alexander Nanta Linggi.
