PETALING JAYA: Senator S Nallakaruppan plans to sue former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad for loss of livelihood following his imprisonment.

The Dewan Negara member was quoted telling Malaysia Gazette he would seek damages for all losses incurred when he was jailed in 1998.

According to Nallakaruppan, he lost three positions as a direct result of his imprisonment, namely as Public Relations Executive Director of Magnum; director of Kamunting Corporation Bhd; and director of Malaysian Plantations Bhd.

“Tun M (Mahathir) wrecked my rice bowl then, and now he is working with the Opposition to destroy the country.

“I hope former Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim won’t fall for Tun M’s acting,” he was quoted as saying.

Nallakaruppan claimed he was thrown behind bars simply because of his friendship with then deputy prime minister Anwar, who had fallen out of favour with Mahathir.

“I was later cleared of the charges of possessing bullets without a permit and released. But what’s the use, as I had already lost my livelihood and earnings.”

Nallakaruppan also claimed Mahathir was now “desperate” to see his son Mukhriz become prime minister, hence his relentless attacks against Prime Minister Najib Razak.
